On July 7, 1946, when our islands were under British Αdministration (British Military Authority, BMA), a DAKOTA type plane, disturbed the tranquility of our island, flying low and dropping various packages. The young people ran, opened them and with unspeakable joy read in the newspapers that had the packages, that "THE DODEKANESE IS GREEK", according to the decision of the Paris Peace Conference. The relevant Treaty was signed on March 31, 1947. One of the packages contained a large Greek flag and a membrane with a resolution of the municipality of Athens. With the personal care of our President Kostas Chartofylis, the membrane was found to be in a poor state with age and poor maintenance. With his intervention to the then Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture, Mrs. L. Mendoni, the appropriate maintenance was carried out by a specialist scientist of the ministry and it was placed in the special display case that is currently located in the Nisyros town hall.
